Putin intends to hold conf on Far East academic research sector

"It is necessary to plan out comprehensive development," the President believes

VLADIVOSTOK, September 10 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin intends to hold a conference on the problems of the academic research sector in the Far East. "We shall work purposefully on the matter," he told a meeting on the development of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFD) at the close of the APEC summit held on its campus.

"It is necessary to plan out comprehensive development," the President believes. "The development of the academic research sector in the Far East must be discussed in greater detail," he said.

Putin cited the example of the oceanarium on the Russkiy Island where not only a tourist complex is to emerge but also science laboratories for research are contemplated. "On the whole, quite a good facility has been brought into being," the President said. "I am sure that we shall get it into fine shape," he added.

"Let us meet in Moscow to ponder on the idea; it is essential to determine a timeframe, pace of work, and priorities," he suggested.
