VLADIVOSTOK, September 9 (Itar-Tass) — Two quakes occurred off the Kuril Islands on Sunday.
The first tremor measuring 5.6 points on the Richter scale happened near the Paramushir Island, the Severo-Kurilsk seismological station reported. The town felt the tremor of 3-4 points. Dishware clinked and ceiling lamps swayed. The quake epicenter was located about 140 kilometers southwest of the town, at the depth of 60 kilometers.
The second tremor of 5.3 points originated in the Kuril-Kamchatka Depression, the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Geophysical Service said. The quake epicenter was located 270 kilometers east of Kurilsk, on the Iturup Island, at the depth of 40 kilometers.
No tsunami warning was given, and no casualties or damage were reported.
