MOSCOW, September 9 (Itar-Tass) — A drunken man blasted a grenade in Ramenskoye, Moscow region, last night injuring the town police chief negotiating his surrender, the Russian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“The officer has had a surgery; his condition is stable. There are no civilian casualties,” the ministry said.
The incident happened in Rodniki, Ramenskoye district, at about 2:00 a.m. Locals informed the police that a fellow villager was running around and threatening to blast them with a grenade.
“The police cordoned the area and started negotiations with the drunken man. The latter tossed the grenade at the police. The town police chief was wounded in the explosion,” the ministry said.
The Moscow regional office of the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass they had opened a criminal case on the counts of an attack on a police officer and illegal storing of explosive devices.
