Moderate earthquake hits northern areas of Kuril Ridge

No damages or casualties were reported. No tsunami warning was issued

VLADIVOSTOK, September 9 (Itar-Tass) — A magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit on Sunday northern areas of the Kuril Ridge, according to reports from the seismological station located on the island of Paramushir.

Earth tremor measuring three to four points on the Richter scale were felt in the city of Severo-Kurilsk. The quake epicenter was located some 140 kilometers southeast of the city at a depth of 60 kilometers. No damages or casualties were reported. No tsunami warning was issued.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey assigned a magnitude 6.0 to this earthquake.
