VLADIVOSTOK, September 9 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s President Vladimir Putin does not consider Europe’s investigation into Gazprom a trade war, but he is sorry about those actions caused by complicated situation in the eurozone.

“What is done around Gazprom is nothing new,” he told a news conference following the APEC summit on Sunday. “As you know, Gazprom’s several foreign offices were searched last year. Now here is the second step in that direction.”

“We are sorry about what is happening,” Putin added.

The president referred the investigation into Gazprom with the complex economic situation in Europe.

“This is caused by several conditions, and first of all by the unfavourable economic situation in the eurozone,” Putin said. “As I can see it, while I am not informed in full detail about the events there, the problems is that all those countries we taken to the European Union, and the EU undertook responsibility to subsidise their economies.”

“Now, the European Commission must have decided we should undertake a part of the burden of the subsidies,” he said.

At the same time, Putin expressed hope it would be possible to settle the situation “without losses.”
