The number of starving people in the world has increased by 150 million in recent time

VLADIVOSTOK, September 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged APEC leaders to make efforts for soonest solution to the food security problem.

"Without soonest and efficient solution to the issue, we cannot achieve our main goal – improvement of welfare of citizens living in the APEC territory,” Putin said when opening the working meeting on Sunday.

It is one of the acutest challenges of the present time. "The topic of food security is also vital for our region," he noted.

The number of starving people in the world has increased by 150 million in recent time, and according to some estimates, by 200 million, to about one billion people. A fourth part of them live in the Asia-Pacific region, he noted.
