Mi-35 army helicopter crashed in Dagestan

MOSCOW, September 8 (Itar-Tass) —A Russian Air Force Mi-35 helicopter has crashed in Dagestan. Its three crewmen have died, Colonel Igor Konashenkov, the head of the press service department of the Russian Defense Ministry, told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

A Mi-35 helicopter of the Russian Air Force was making a planned flight when it disappeared from radar screens near the Botlikh populated locality, the Republic of Dagestan, at 14:30 Moscow time. At 15:00 Moscow time, the local residents reported hearing a sound of collision: the helicopter collided with a mountain when crossing a mountain pass.

“Reports from the crash site said that three members of the Mi-35 crew died,” Konashenkov went on to say.

He said that Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov had ordered to set up a commission that will investigate the causes that had led to the crash. Its members have already left for the crash site. A ground group of rescuers is also moving towards the crash scene.

Konashenkov added that all Mi-35 flights had been suspended.
