MOSCOW, September 7 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Investigations Committee has launched a probe into an explosion at a forensic laboratory of the interior ministry in Moscow, spokeswoman for the Moscow administration of the Russian Investigations Committee Victoria Tsyplenkova told Itar-Tass on Friday.

According to the spokeswoman, the blast at the forensic centre located in Moscow’s Zoya and Alexander Kosmodemyanskikh Street occurred when an inexperienced police officer was examining various articles, including explosives, related to a criminal case. The man was the only one hurt in the explosion.

Investigators are establishing what caused the explosion. A criminal case might be opened, Tsyplenkova said.

According to earlier reports, the blast occurred at 12:30 Moscow time when the expert was examining grenade detonators. A police source said that the man was badly injured in the explosion. He was hospitalized with his hands torn off. No fire followed. The building was not damaged.
