BAKU, September 7 (Itar-Tass) — NATO has no intention of military interference in Syrian affairs, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said at the Azerbaijani Diplomatic Academy on Friday.

He objected to comparing the situations of Libya and Syria. Libya and Syria are two different cases; there was a UN authorization and support of regional states to the protection of the Libyan people, while a political solution would be the best for Syria, he said.

At the same time, NATO is closely monitoring the Syrian situation and is prepared to protect Turkey if necessary, Rasmussen said. Turkey is a NATO partner, and the alliance will protect it if the protection is required, he said.
