MOSCOW, September 5 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian company Atomstrojexport is planning to hand over the first power unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant to the customer’s guarantee maintenance late in December, an official spokesperson for the Federal Agency for Atomic Energy (Rosatom) told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
Igor Mezin, the head of the Atomstrojexport’s department for the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, said that reactor No. 1 had recently reached its one hundred percent capacity and that Russian specialists would run a series of tests on that power unit in the third decade of December.
“The tests include trials of neutron-physical characteristics of the active zone and dynamic trials with altering the unit’s capacity,” Mezin clarified.
He said that Russian and Iranian atomic energy experts would carry out planned preventive repairs of the unit to be completed in the third decade of November.
Mezin explained that after that they would run a test operation of reactor No.1 for 26 days.
He said that after another ten days the reactor No.1 would be preliminary accepted for operation. Russian and Iranian experts will jointly operate the power unit for the next three years.
“Iranian staff is being trained under an agreement for operation of nuclear power plant though their number is so far insufficient,” Mezin stressed.
“A sufficient number of personnel will be trained under an additional agreement which is being prepared,” the Atomstrojexport’s representative said in conclusion.
