MOSCOW, September 5 (Itar-Tass) — More than 100 Russian tourists - customers of the bankrupt CherriTur tour operator have returned from Bulgaria home, the press service of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported on Wednesday.
“Flights from Bulgaria to Moscow, Novosibirsk and Kaliningrad on September 4 have brought more than 100 people,” ATOR said. “Despite the fact that the Bulgarian tour operator VASSY changed its mind at the last moment and arranged a transfer to the airport for tourists, many tourists still had to bear additional costs on vacation. The exact number of tourists affected by the irresponsibility of the businessman has not yet been specified, only preliminary data are available - about 500 people.”
ATOR specified that VASSY has now proposed the following form of dealing with tourists of CherriTur: they will be offered to re-pay their hotel rates. Those who refuse to pay “will not be found themselves in the street,” the tour operator has promised that “all the tourists will have shelter until their departure home.” However, VASSY reserves the right to move tourists who refused to re-pay for rooms in four- and five-star hotels, to less expensive hotels, namely – 3-star hotels.
“The company explains its decision by the fact that it has already suffered losses from actions of CherriTur and its willingness to provide tourists with accommodation and meals free of charge allows it to change the accommodation level,” the agency specified.
ATOR has quite often been receiving information from tourists the departure of which to Russia is planned for later dates, that they want to continue their holidays in a comfortable way and so agree to pay again for their rooms.
All additional costs that the tourists in Bulgaria will have to bear, the same as the cost of tours that will not be arranged by CherriTur will be indemnified by the Ingosstrakh insurance company within the limit of 30 million roubles.
The insurance company has published on its website the list of documents that the tourists who seek compensation will have to collect and transfer to the insurer.
