VLADIVOSTOK, September 5 (Itar-Tass) — Vladivostok has changed dramatically in recent years. This opinion was expressed by the President and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham) Andrew Somers at a meeting with governor of the Primorsky Territory Vladimir Miklushevsky.
“I’m impressed with your achievements in terms of transport infrastructure. Within the APEC Business Summit I will run one of the sections on the development of transport infrastructure. This transport component is very important for investors in selecting territory and Vladivostok in this regard is an exemplary city,” said Somers, who visited the city 15 years ago. However, he stressed that for American investors Vladivostok is a completely new story of relationship.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia is a business association dedicated to promoting the interests of its member companies. To this end, the Chamber has committed itself to working with the Russian government on key reform measures, such as the RF Tax Code, foreign direct investment regulation and customs legislation.
Miklushevsky for his part familiarised the American representative with the socio-economic development prospects of the Primorsky Territory. The governor said that the total investment volume in the economy of the region over the past few years has reached about 680 billion roubles. “These funds have been invested in the development of infrastructure - transport, utilities, as well as education and culture. The infrastructure created today allows the territory to count on the attraction of private investment. We intend to open all roads to investors,” said the governor, adding that in the near future an investment agency, which should act as a mediator between the government and businesses, will be open in the region.
“We plan to increase the share of the service economy by means of powerful multipliers. We pay major attention to the development of the tourism and automotive clusters. The region also implements petrochemical and gas-chemical projects,” Miklushevsky said. “For example, we will shortly put the first stone in the foundation of a petrochemical plant.”
“The oil terminal is already working in Kozmino. The filling of the pipeline with oil is currently underway, it is planned to launch the pipeline this November,” the region’s head added.
