BRYANSK, September 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The border regions in the European part of Russia will be the first territories to feel the consequences of Russia’s entry in the World Trade Organization (WTO), Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said at a visiting meeting of the Council here on Tuesday.

“This is the Central Federal District with its territorial peculiarities that will feel fully all advantages and all disadvantages of the first stage of Russia’s membership in the WTO,” Patrushev noted.

The control of trading, taxation and customs regimes is particularly important for security in the border regions, as well as the fact that the regions will tap their agricultural and industrial potentials as much as possible, he said.

Russian Presidential Representative in the Central Federal District Alexander Beglov, representatives of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, the chiefs of the law enforcement agencies and the heads of several Russian regions were participating in the meeting.

The participants in the meeting discussed additional measures to realize the policy of border cooperation between the regions in the Central Federal District with Ukraine and Belarus at the initial stage of functioning of the Russian economy within the WTO framework.
