SOFIA, September 4 (Itar-Tass) — The situation with Russian citizens in Bulgaria that were affected from the bankruptcy of the Russian tourist operator Cherry Tour, are being gradually accommodated, despite the fact that Bulgarian tourist operators offer to Russian citizens to pay for their tours again, Vice-Consul of the Russian General Consulate in Varna Maxim Aleshin told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“Now the situation with Russian tourists is not critical,” he said, adding that the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism is keeping in constant contact with the Russian Federal Tourism Agency.
“Some Russian citizens, who were on vacations here, were brought back to Russia successfully today,” the Russian diplomat said. “We are concerned that new groups of our citizens can arrive here, as the latter had also bought the tours from this tourist company or its daughter companies,” he said.
The vice-consul noted that “the hotels do not demand repeated accommodation payments from them.” “Bulgarian tourist operators offer to Russian citizens to pay again for their tours in order to cut their losses. Under the Bulgarian law, the hotels should provide to the holidaymakers the package of services after the registration of a tourist in the hotel on a tourist voucher,” Aleshin explained.
The Russian General Consulate in Varna also noted that the problem of the transportation of Russian tourists to the homeland on September 8-9 is not settled yet.
