MOSCOW, September 3 (Itar-Tass) — About 150 clients of the bankrupt Cherry Tur tour operator remain in Bulgaria, the head of the Rosturpomoshch association of tour operators, Eduard Kuznetsov, told reporters on Monday.

“Information changes constantly,” he said. “At the moment we have information of Bulgaria’s Vassy company about 100 people and other tour operators report about 50 people. Two hundred tourists of Cherry Tur have already left Bulgaria,” he stressed.

Earlier, the Rosturizm Federal Agency for Tourism received reports that Cherry Tur’s partner in Bulgaria Vassy had began demanding that Cherry Tur clients pay for accommodation once again.

Russian Union of Travel Industry (RUTI) press secretary Irina Tyurina has confirmed complaints that attempts are made to squeeze money from tourists, saying tourists are asked to pay 500 euros to 1,800 euros for accommodation.

“Tourists don’t have such money, and many of them don’t have passports on hand, they cannot leave hotels and go to the airport. Those who have passports on hand receive threats that they won’t be let out of the hotel,” she added.

Cherry Tur officially suspended its activity on Sunday.
