KAZAN, September 3 (Itar-Tass) — The Privolzhsky District Court on Monday is beginning the consideration of the first criminal case against two former district policemen of the Dalny precinct - Ilshat Garifullin and Ramil Nigmatzyanov. The court press secretary Liliya Khaibullina told Itar-Tass that the “case against the former district policemen was taken to court on August 16. The former police officers are accused of abuse of office and forgery.”
According to investigators, on March 9, 2012 in Kazan Garifullin, who was engaged in the search for a man accused of a cell phone theft in a store, together with Nigmatzyanov took the suspect, 52-year old Sergei Nazarov, to the Dalny police precinct. According to investigators, at the precinct Garifullin and Nigmatzyanov falsified the materials that formed the basis for drawing up an administrative offense protocol against the detained person under the “petty crime” article. According to the Russian Investigative Committee, the accused former policemen have fully admitted their guilt, so the case against them has been separated.
The Dalny police precinct become notorious in early March when the precinct’s policemen, according to the investigation, tortured Sergei Nazarov, as a result of which the detained man died. Five policemen of the Dalny station were arrested on suspicion of having committed the crime. All of them were fired shortly after the incident and orders of the Tatarstan interior minister.
After this the investigation revealed several more episodes of criminal activity of the former and current police officers of the precinct. Currently, eight more former police officers of the Dalny precinct are charged within several cases of violence against detainees.
