Powerful handmade bomb found on car of militant killed in Kabardino-Balkaria

The search of the militant’s car revealed a pistol and shells of various calibers

NALCHIK, September 2 (Itar-Tass) —— A powerful handmade bomb was found on the car of a militant killed in a clash with the police in Kabardino-Balkaria on Saturday night.

“The bomb – a plastic bucket filled with ammonia saltpeter and aluminum powder – was equivalent to 15 kilograms of TNT. It was dangerous to transport the explosive device, so it was blasted onsite,” the republican police told Itar-Tass on Sunday. “The police found an electric detonator set to 10:00 a.m. Experts think a large terrorist act was being planned,” the police said.

The search of the militant’s car revealed a pistol and shells of various calibers. They were taken to a forensic laboratory.

The Kabardino-Balkaria Interior Ministry’s Counter Extremism Center and the republican department of the Federal Security Service blocked a white VAZ-2107 car near Chernigovskaya in the Prokhladny district. The driver refused to pull over and opened gunfire. He was killed in the gunfire exchange and was identified as a 30-year-old accomplice of the leader of the gang operating in the Chegem district. There were neither civilian nor law enforcer casualties in the clash.
