Over 1.5 million people celebrated Moscow’s Day

The Moscow police did a good job, averting emergencies and extraordinary situations

MOSCOW, September 2 (Itar-Tass) — More than 1.5 million people took part in festivities and celebrations of Moscow’s Day, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry department for Moscow said on Sunday.

“Over one and half million Muscovites and guests of the capital took part in the Day of the City celebrations. About 300,000 of them were in the city center,” a Moscow police source clarified.

He said that more than 16,000 policemen, servicemen of internal troops and employees of private guarding firms had guarded public order during the festivities.

This year, the Day of the City celebrations coincided with Day of Knowledge traditionally marked on September 1 when schoolchildren resume their classes after the summer vacation. A total of 919,000 schoolchildren attended events held in 1,851 schools.

“The Moscow police did a good job, averting emergencies and extraordinary situations,” the source went on to say.
