Memorial vigil for school siege victims held in Beslan

Relatives of the victims and survivors go to destroyed School No 1, which was stormed by Chechen rebels, who took hostage 1,128 people

VLADIKAVKAZ, September 1 (Itar-Tass) — Thousands of mourners with flowers and toys are gathering from the early morning at a school in Beslan to remember those killed in the siege on September 3, 2004, when 331 people died, 186 of them children.

Relatives of the victims and survivors go to destroyed School No 1, which was stormed by Chechen rebels, who took hostage 1,128 people. In the evening 331 candles will be lit in the school yard.

On Friday the memorial plates were unveiled in Beslan to remember servicemen of Alfa and Vympel special task forces and two rescuers of the Emergencies Ministry killed in the siege.
