Russia’s WTO accession to increase economic competitiveness - FM

Russia’s accession to the WTO will allow “to take part as a full-fledged member in defining the rules of trade and investments”

MOSCOW, September 1 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization may increase the country’s economic competitiveness, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday at a traditional meeting with students and teaching staff of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University).

This step will increase the influx of foreign goods to Russia (what consumers will feel in lower prices) and “boost revenues from export, in particular in the trade with the EU,” he said.

Russia’s accession to the WTO will allow “to take part as a full-fledged member in defining the rules of trade and investments” and liquidate discriminatory barriers, he said.
