MAKHACHKALA, August 29 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Republic of Dagestan has announced a day of mourning for top Muslim religious leader Said Afandi and five of his followers who were killed in a suicide bombing on Tuesday.
State flags are flying at half-mast, all entertainment programmes on TV and radio were cancelled.
Dagestan President Magomedsalam Magomedov instructed the government to take necessary measures to support families of those killed.
Said Afandi was buried on Tuesday at a cemetery in his native village of Chirkei in Dagestan’s Buinaksk district.
Over 100,000 mourners, including representatives from all North Caucasus republics, came to pay last respects to Said Afandi.
According to the Russian investigative committee, the religious leader and five of his followers were killed by a female suicide bomber in Afandi’s home.
