Weather deteriorates in Far East as typhoon approaches

On Wednesday heavy rains are expected in Primorye, and gusts of wind will be up to 23 meters per second

MOSCOW, August 28 (Itar-Tass) — Weather will sharply deteriorate in the next few days in Russia’s Primorye, the Khabarovsk and Amur regions, on Sakhalin and Kamchatka, as former Typhoon Bolaven will approach these regions, the Russian federal meteorological service reports.

On Wednesday heavy rains are expected in Primorye, and gusts of wind will be up to 23 meters per second. Hurricane winds up to 35 meters per second are expected on the southern coast, while water levels in local rivers are expected to rise by up to one meter, and up to two meters in the Razdolnaya River.

Heavy rains with 50 millimeters of rainfall within 12 hours are expected in most districts of the Khabarovsk region on Wednesday and Thursday. Winds will get stronger, up to 25 meters per second in the south of the region on Wednesday. Heavy rains are expected on the Okhotsk coast on August 31.

Heavy rains are also expected in the east of the Amur region and in the Jewish Autonomous Area. Winds will be up to 25 meters per second, and overflow of small rivers is not ruled out.

Intensive rains are also expected in the Kamchatka region on August 30-31, and winds will be up to 20 meters per second. The same weather conditions are expected on Russia’s Sakhalin Island.
