Search at factory of Navalny’s parents underway in Kirovles case

According to the media, the Kobyakovo willow weaving factory, which was established in the 1930s, in the 1990s became a private enterprise

MOSCOW, August 28 (Itar-Tass) —— The search at the Moscow regional factory, which the parents of blogger Alexei Navalny own, is underway as part of the investigation into the Kirovles property misappropriation case, the press service of the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“The search is caused by the fact that a founder of the Kobyakovo willow weaving factory is Alexei Navalny, who is a defendant in the criminal case into the property misappropriation case of the Kirovles enterprise,” the press service reported.

“During the search the detectives intend to find objects and documents, which are important in the criminal case and can prove Navalny’s illegal activities during the period of time, when the crimes incriminated to him were committed in 2009,” the press service reported.

On July 31, the Investigation Committee accused Navalny of masterminding the property misappropriation case at the Kirovles enterprise and he was put on recognizance not to leave the city. The detectives found that “Navalny being a pro bono advisor to the governor in the Kirov Region masterminded the property misappropriation case at the Kirov regional state-run unitary enterprise Kirovles, engaging in a conspiracy with director of the Vyatka forest company Pyotr Ofitserov and Kirovles Director General Vyacheslav Opalev.” According to the detectives, from May to September 2009 over 10,000 cubic meters of timber, which Kirovles possessed, were stolen, and the damages to the budget in the Kirov Region exceeded 16 million roubles.

According to the media, the Kobyakovo willow weaving factory, which was established in the 1930s, in the 1990s became a private enterprise, which the Navalny family owned (previously the media affirmed that Navalny’s mother worked as an economist at the enterprise and prevent the ancient craft from going into oblivion after the decision for the elimination of the enterprise). According to the media, the willow weaving factory is possessed in equal shares by Alexei Navalny’s father (general director), his wife (commercial director) and two sons.
