KRASNOYARSK, August 27 (Itar-Tass) — There have been no new cases of anthrax among residents of Altai Terrotory’s Druzhba settlement, and the situation is under control, sources from the regional department of the Rospotrebnadzor consumer rights watchdog told Itar-Tass on Monday.
“Three cases of anthrax among residents of Druzhba, Tselinny district, have been registered by the present moment. One of the cases was lethal. Two other cases have been confirmed by lab tests,” the sources said.
“Residents of the village, who had contacts with sick animals, undergo preventive treatment, and eight of them were hospitalized to the infectious disease ward of the Biisk central city clinic as a preventive measure,” the sources added.
Measures are taken to prevent the spread of the disease. “The population has been informed about preventive measures. Specialists from the veterinary department of the region take measures to prevent the spread of the disease among animals. Anti-epidemic activities continue,” the sources stressed.
A Druzhba resident died of anthrax on August 24. Criminal proceedings have been opened on Monday in connection with the violation of sanitary-epidemiological rules that inflicted the death of a person though negligence.
Quarantine has been imposed in the settlement, and traffic from the settlement is limited, the sources said. Police patrols are on duty on the roads leading to the village.
Anthrax is a dangerous infectious disease of farm and wild animals, as well as of humans, which may have cutaneous and septic forms.
