Two die, four injured in accident at Yakutia’s mine

Twelve people got to the surface on their own, four of them having injuries were taken to the city hospital in Udachninsk

MOSCOW, August 26 (Itar-Tass) — Two people were killed and four injured in an accident in a mine under construction in Yakutia, press service of the Far East regional branch of EMERCOM said on Sunday.

"Today, at depth of 365 meters an accident occurred in ALROSA’s mine under construction. At that time, there were 17 people there," the source said.

Twelve people got to the surface on their own, four of them having injuries were taken to the city hospital in Udachninsk. "Doctors consider state of three of them as moderate, one of the injured is in critical condition."

Five miners, who remained in the mine, were taken to the surface by Yakutsk’s militarized mining rescue team. Two of them died.

"The state of the three evacuated miners is satisfactory, and they do not require medical care," the source said.

Causes of the accident are being established.
