Russia’s Channel One to run 10-episode film about singer Anna German

During her life Anna German recorded more than 400 songs, including 100 in the Russian language

MOSCOW, August 26 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Channel One will start running a 10-episode film about legendary Polish singer Anna German titled “Anna German. The Mystery of the White Angel” (2012) on September 3 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the singer’s death. The film is made by Polish and Russian film directors.

Anna German was born in the town of Urgench (Uzbekistan) in the former USSR. Today, the town’s main street bear Anna’s name. Initially, the future pop star wanted to become a geologist. She graduated from the Wroclaw University in Poland where her family had re-settled from Uzbekistan after the war. Anna made her debut in an amateur theatre. Her performance at the Sopot song festival brought her real fame.

During her life Anna German recorded more than 400 songs, including 100 in the Russian language. Many of her songs became hits in the USSR. Many famous Soviet composers wrote songs for her.

Anna German and her songs are very popular in Russia. Her admirers set up a club in Moscow that later became international.
