Yanukovich says Ukraine seeking to change position on nat gas problem

MOSCOW, August 25 (Itar-Tass) – Ukraine would like to change its position on the problem of natural gas imports from Russia, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich said Saturday as he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.

“Maybe we’ll some time left to talk about natural gas,” he said. “This issue will never drop off the agenda of our relations and it’ll always remain quite sensitive for us.”

“If I may put it this way, we’d like adjust positions in relations with Russia a little and that’s why we really have something to speak about,” Yanukovich said.

He also mentioned Ukraine’s request to Russia to assist the country in getting an observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization /SCO/.

“We’d like to get an opportunity to take part in the integration processes in that space,” Yanukovich said.
