VLADIVOSTOK, August 25 (Itar-Tass) — Access control has been introduced on Russky Island near Vladivostok as of Saturday in the run-up to a summit conference of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum /APEC/ that will be held on the island from September 7 through to September 11.
Also, the authorities have introduced restrictions on sea navigation in the water area adjoining Vladivostok, the press service of the regional branch of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ said.
Russky Island’s bays of Novik, Ayaks and Paris will be closed for mooring and navigation through to September 11, and all types of navigation will be fully banned in the Amur and Ussuri Straits in the days of the summit. Those who try to encroach on the ban will face financial penalties and their navigation licenses will be revoked for up to six months.
EMERCOM’s state territorial inspector for small size ships Leonid Makovetsky told Itar-Tass the Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service /FSB/, border guards, and units of Russia’s Pacific Fleet will join forces with EMERCOM in controlling the water area off the Vladivostok shore.
“Passenger ships will be cruising strictly on schedule,” he said.
Permanent residents of the island and people having real estate there – about 5,000 individuals all in all – will be able to make trips between the island and Vladivostok strictly upon the presentation of passes, the press service of Vladivostok mayoralty said.
The APEC summit conference will be held on the newly built compound of the Far-Eastern Federal University. The organizers of the event expect that the official delegations from about twenty Asian and Pacific countries will attend the forum.
All in all, the authorities expect to host about 10,000 guests in connection with the summit.
