OSLO, August 25 (Itar-Tass) —— The sentence passed on Anders Breivek is the full stop at the end of an important chapter in Norway’s history, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said on NRK television on Friday.

He believes that Norwegian society has decently coped with the trial of the terrorist and the court did a god job and showed once again it was independent of anybody’s opinions. Stoltenberg pointed out that the authorities did their utmost to not intervene in the trial and not influence its outcome, as well as to offer no comments on the court’s ruling. Stoltenberg refrained from saying anything about the sentence, too.

“If the sentence is not appealed against, this will mean that we put a full stop at the end of one of the important chapters in our history,” he said. “At the same time the events of July 22 last year will stay long with us. In particular, this concerns who lost relatives and dear ones then or received serious injuries that will have to be put up with to the end of their lifetime. Also, this has a bearing on society in general.”

Oslo’s district court on Friday ruled Breivek was sane and sentenced him to 21 years in jail. The decision regarding his sanity was made by a panel of five judges unanimously.

“Breivek is sentenced to 21-year imprisonment. The minimum duration of his jail term is ten years,” Judge Wenche Elizabeth Arntzen said.

After ten years in prison the terrorist will have a theoretic chance of being released on parole. At the same time the court believes that even after serving the 21-year sentence Breivek will be posing a threat to society. The court has reserved an opportunity for prolonging imprisonment for five-year periods after that.
