Repair work continues in flood-hit Primorye areas

The floods destroyed more than ten bridges

VLADIVOSTOK, August 24 (Itar-Tass) — Primorye is dealing with the consequences of the torrential rains that caused overflows of rivers and floods.

An Emergencies Ministry Mi-8 helicopter is used to examine the inundated areas.

Transport links were opened to the villages of Partizan, Romanovsky Klyuch and Slinkino by 16:00 local time (09:00 Moscow time) on Friday, but links are still impeded to the villages of Novaya Sila, Okrainka and Zavetnoye, where 12 operational groups are working to estimate damages.

A total of 282 private yards and gardens remain flooded in 16 residential areas. The basements in 38 houses are flooded in eight residential sites.

The floods destroyed more than ten bridges. Ten tourists were isolated by the river overflow in the Dalnerechensk district. They were evacuated by a helicopter.

More than 1,500 villagers in the Partizansk, Chuguyevka and Anuchino districts are left without electricity. The Malinovo-Pozhiga electric-transmission line remains inundated in the Dalnerechensk district. Eight teams are working to resume electricity supply there. The repair is expected to be completed soon.

The flood wave will move down the rivers Ussuri and Arsenyevka in the next three days, according to the forecasts.

The Emergencies Ministry warns that the Arsenyevka River on August 25 will overflow its banks near the village of Yakovlevka, the Ussuri will rise near the settlement of Kirovsky and the Spassovka village will go up near the town of Spassk-Dalny. The overflows may flood local roads and some yards on the outskirts of the villages of Tikhmenevo, Arkhangelovka and Podgornoye and the town of Spassk-Dalny. About 100 private houses, where about 260 people reside, may be inundated.

Warnings are issued for the districts. Emergency services are on alert. Work is underway to reinforce roads, electric-transmission line supports and flood-prevention barriers.

Meanwhile, meteorologists say that another typhoon may reach the Primorye Territory in a few days. The storm is moving northwest. The weather will worsen in the region on the night to August 28 with rains that will spread all over the territory on August 28. The southeast wind of up to 18-23 m/sec will hit the southern coast and Vladivostok. The rains will leave the region in the middle of next week.
