MOSCOW, August 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday will make a working trip to Saransk, Mordovia, where he will take part in festivities marking the 1,000th anniversary of unity of the Mordovian people with the peoples of the Russian state and will chair the first session of the Council for Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation, the Kremlin press service reports.
About 10,000 guests from more than 60 Russian regions and foreign countries will attend festivities, the press service said. A costumed march “We are all - Russia” with the participation of about 15,000 people representing creative teams from 54 regions of the country will be among the focal events in the festivities.
The ‘Millennium’ is celebrated as an all-Russian holiday (chairman of the organising committee is Vladimir Putin). The festivities continue a series of events that have already taken place in many parts of the country, including various festivals, competitions and concerts, meeting of scientists, culture workers and state authority representatives. The Forum of the Peoples of Russia, dedicated to the unity of the Russian people ahs began its work, several major exhibitions, including at the Museum of Local Lore – “Living History Pages” and two major expositions – all-Russia art exhibitions “Russia - My Motherland!” and “Treasures of Mordovia from Russian Museum Collections,” at the Erzi Museum have been opened. The all-Russia carvers’ festival “Singing Tree,” which has brought together masters from all over the country has been launched in Saransk. Saransk meets the jubilee with a new - more beautiful appearance, once again confirming the title of “Russia’s most comfortable city” (it is the name of a federal competition that Saransk won in 2011).
The program of the RF head of state’s visit includes the first meeting of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, established in order to improve public policy in this sphere. The Council members are the leaders of the all-Russian ethnic-cultural associations, representatives of the scientific and expert community, the heads of a number of federal bodies of state authority. The meeting participants are expected to determine the order of the future work of the Council, with taking into account the views of its members.
Putin signed the Decree “On the Council for Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation” at the beginning of June. The Council Chairman is the RF head of state himself, his deputies are - First Deputy head of the RF Presidential Administration Vyacheslav Volodin and RF Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak. The Council was formed “to improve public policy in the field of interethnic relations,” the decree says.
