MOSCOW, August 23 (Itar-Tass) —— Unilateral sanctions a number of countries imposed on Syria are no reason to fold up Russian-Syrian economic programs, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, commenting, specifically, on the possibility of the granting of a loan to Damascus.

“Russian-Syrian commercial and economic relations, despite an internal conflict in Syria, develop dynamically,” the ministry said.

The ministry recalled that the eighth meeting of the permanent Russian-Syrian commission for commercial, economic, scientific and technical cooperation was held in Moscow in May. The implementation of its decisions was discussed at the July 30 meeting of Alexander Khloponin, the commission’s co-chairman for Russia, deputy prime minister and presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, and Qadri Jamil, the Syrian deputy prime minister.

“Russia’s interaction with Syria in the oil-and-gas industry, energy, transport and agriculture were discussed during these contacts,” the ministry said. “It should be noted that financial and investment cooperation, including the granting of loans, is nothing exceptional and is considered in accordance with existing procedures,” the ministry noted. .

“Unilateral sanctions against Syria imposed by a number of countries, of which Russia is widely known to be critical, are no reason for folding up joint economic and other plans and programs,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
