Two thirds of houses inspected in flood-hit Tuapse district

In the past 24 hours electricity supply has been restored in 430 houses

KRASNODAR, August 23 (Itar-Tass) — Two thirds of houses, which were hit by the flood in the Tuapse district, have been inspected and a total of 4,500 people remain without electricity, the Krasnodar Territory emergency department told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“At 189 houses should be inspected where about 600 people live,” the emergency department said.

A total of 920 houses remain without electricity in the settlements of Lermontovo and Novomikhailovsky. In the past 24 hours electricity supply has been restored in 430 houses. At least 29 brigades are involved to conduct repair works.

In order to supply drinking water to the population six points have been organised. Six water purification systems have been delivered to the settlement of Novomikhailovsky.

In addition, 30 brigades of social workers and 18 rapid response teams work in the area and provide medical assistance to 61 people.

The hotline has been set up in the Territory’s emergency department. All information can be gotten by 8-861-268-64-40. Krasnodar Territory Governor Alexander Tkachev took the situation in the Novomikhailovsky village under control.

On Wednesday night Nechepsukho River’s water level rose after rainstorms in the village of Novomikhailovsky. Six streets have been waterlogged in houses where 1,500 people live. The rainstorms killed 153 people, destroyed 1,370 houses and waterlogged 7,000 houses.

President Vladimir Putin instructed the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Ministry of Regional Development, as well as the Krasnodar Territory administration to provide assistance to the Novomikhailovsky village that was hit by the food, the Kremlin press service reported.

“The president called for taking necessary measures to provide aid to the victims of the flood, restoring housing and organising normal living conditions in the village,” the press service said.
