MOSCOW, August 23 (Itar-Tass) — The Republican Party of Russia /RPR-PARNAS/ will support Khimki Forest defender Yevgenia Chirikova at the early mayoral election in the town of Khimki, Moscow region, if she becomes the only candidate from the Opposition, RPR-PARNAS co-chairman Vladimir Ryzhkov told Itar-Tass.

"As far as we know, the Yabloko Party is nominating its own candidate, Igor Belousov, who netted 22 percent of votes at the 2009 election /Chirikova only gathered 15 percent at the time/. If Yevgenia Chirikova and Yabloko reach an accord, and there is one candidate from the Opposition, we'll support this person," Ryzhkov said.

Subsequent reports said Yabloko would not nominate its candidate and that it would throw its weight behind Chirikova. According to Mitrokhin, it meets the Party's line where the Opposition activists should consolidate and not create problems for each other.
