PYATIGORSK, southern Russia, August 22 (Itar-Tass) — Criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with shooting on the Yuznyi market in Stavropol, southern Russia, on charges of hooliganism, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry department for the Stavropol territory reports.
According to law enforcers, a group of men came to the Yuzhnyi market in daytime on Wednesday and opened fire at vegetable vendors, some of whom were citizens of Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“Supposedly, they used traumatic weapons,” the press service went on to say.
Five people were wounded. Doctors assess their condition as satisfactory.
“The attackers escaped from the scene in a car whose owner has been detained. Police are studying witnesses’ evidence and the incident’s video recording,” the press service said.
Investigation into the incident is under way.
