ULYANOVSK, August 22 (Itar-Tass) — The Leninsky district court in Ulyanosk on Wednesday finished considering an appeal of the Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov. The verdict will be announced at 15:00 on August 23, a court source told Itar-Tass.
On June 27, Udaltsov was found guilty under article 116 part 1 of the Russian Penal Code (beating or other violent actions that cause physical pain). He was sentenced to 240 hours of mandatory community work. Udaltsov didn’t plead guilty to beating a journalist at a rally and appealed against his sentence.
The counsel for the defense presented new witnesses and documents to the court on Wednesday. Journalist Anna Pozdnyakova, the person affected, and her lawyer were absent from the court hearing for valid reasons.
