Gazprom chief, Ukrainian minister discuss Russian gas transit to Europe

The sides discussed how fast Naftogas Ukrainy was filling Ukrainian underground gas storage reservoirs

MOSCOW, August 22 (Itar-Tass) — Gazprom’s chief Alexei Miller and Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Mining Industry Yuri Boyko discussed preparations for the forthcoming autumn-winter period, including uninterrupted transit of Russian gas by Naftogaz Ukrainy, the Russian gas monopoly reports.

The sides discussed how fast Naftogas Ukrainy was filling Ukrainian underground gas storage reservoirs to ensure continuous transit of Russian gas.

According to Itar-Tass reports, in June 2012 Gazprom granted an advance worth two billion dollars to Nafrogaz Ukrainy to ensure gas transit. That provided the Ukrainian side with working assets for the purchase of gas and its further pumping into underground gas storage reservoirs.

Ukraine has reportedly filled its underground storage reservoirs with 8.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas and brought the gas volumes to 15.7 billion cubic meters while preparing for the autumn-winter season.
