600 houses waterlogged in Kuban’s Novomikhailovsky village

Six streets have been waterlogged in houses where 1,500 people live

MOSCOW, August 22 (Itar-Tass) — A total of 600 houses have been waterlogged in the Novomikhailovsky village in Kuban and 150 people have been evacuated from the hospital, the Emergency Situations Ministry’s press service told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

According to the Interior Ministry, last night Nechepsukho River’s water level rose after rainstorms in the village of Novomikhailovsky. Six streets have been waterlogged in houses where 1,500 people live. The rainstorms killed 153 people, destroyed 1,370 houses and waterlogged 7,000 houses.

About 300 houses have been waterlogged in the Novomikhailovsky village due to rainstorms. About 1,500 people have been evacuated. “The water level is being reduced at a speed of about 10 cm/h,” the ministry said.

A total of 150 people, including 14 children, have been evacuated from the central clinic to other medical institutions, it added.

The bodies of four dead people have been found in a waterlogged village in Krasnodar Territory, the Russian Interior Ministry’s press service told Itar-Tass. “At the moment four dead people have been found. They are being identified,” an official of the ministry said.

“By 7 a.m. the water level decreased in the Novomikhailovsky village,” the press service said.

Meanwhile, the rainstorms broke the work of three water supply stations in the villages of Lermontovo, Novomikhailovsky and Tynginka, two sewage systems and two boiler houses,” the press service said.

In addition, energy supply has been partially violated in the villages of Lermontovo and Novomikhailovsky.

Ten trucks will deliver water to the population.

In order to conduct the rescue and recovery operation necessary services have started their activities. According to the Emergency Situations Ministry, gas supply was turned off in houses.

Krasnodar Territory Governor Alexander Tkachev has taken the situation in the Novomikhailovsky village under control.

The Krasnodar Territory public prosecutor’s office instituted an examination on the execution of law on the protection of the population from natural calamities and technogenic catastrophes. “During the examination, an assessment will be given to the work of officials in charge of prevention of emergency situations and to the readiness of resources and manpower to cope with the consequences of the disaster,” the prosecutor’s office stressed.
