Military copter crashes in Kazakhstan, four pilots killed

An interdepartmental commission has been set up to look into the crash

ASTANA, August 22 (Itar-Tass) — A military helicopter Mi-17 crashed on Wednesday near the capital of Kazakhstan during a training flight. Four crewmembers were killed, the Kazakh Ministry for Emergency Situations reports.

“A Mi-17 helicopter of the Kazakh Defense Ministry crashed near the airport of Astana during a training flight” at about 8 am local time (6 am Moscow time),” it said. “The crew of four people died,” the ministry reports.

An interdepartmental commission has been set up to look into the crash. Specialists from the Chief Department for Flight Safety and State Aviation, the Defense Ministry, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Interior Ministry’s investigation department are working at the site of the crash.
