MOSCOW, August 21 (Itar-Tass) —— The Investigation Committee of Russia charged Gilani Saipov, the suspected accomplice in the assassination in Moscow of Alimsoltan Alkhamatov, the head of Dagestan’s Khasavyurt district. Chief of the Investigation Committee Vladimir Markin said Saipov was detained as a result of the search in Dagestan from August 14-17.

The other suspect, Zaurbek Magomedov, opened fire resisting detention and was liquidated, Marking said.

Alimsoltan Alkhamatov, 45, was shot dead in the yard of a house in south west Moscow on the evening of September 27, 2009. The car, from which he stepped out, accompanied by a guard, was riddled with bullets from submachine guns. The attackers fired at least 20 shots. Alkhamatov died in an ambulance. His guard, Nadzhmutdin Mitikov, was heavily wounded.
