Syria delegation to discuss in Moscow crisis settlement ways

The Syrian government delegation led by Jamil has already held talks with Russian diplomats in early August

MOSCOW, August 21 (Itar-Tass) — Syria’s delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Qadri Jamil will discuss in Moscow on Tuesday ways out of the country’s ongoing crisis.

A source in Damascus told Itar-Tass that the deputy prime minister will be accompanied by Minister for National Reconciliation Ali Haidar. They plan to hold meetings in the RF Foreign Ministry.

The Syrian government delegation led by Jamil has already held talks with Russian diplomats in early August. The Syrian deputy prime minister said after the talks that Russia has promised to consider Damascus’ request for a loan. In addition, he said, the two sides reached an agreement on the supply of energy resources to Syria. “The details will be discussed in the coming weeks,” Qadri Jamil said then. “The most important thing for us now is to break the blockade around Syria, we need to address the economic issues,” he stressed.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday warned the Western partners against taking unilateral actions against Syria. According to him, only the UN Security Council decided on the cases requiring enforcement measures. “It is also useful to remember that so far none of the countries affected by unilateral foreign intervention or unilateral sanctions, not approved by the UN, has become either an island of stability or a showcase of democracy,” the RF foreign minister said.
