HELSINKI, August 20 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said any unilateral ideas towards Syria would not work.
After the talks with Finnish counterpart Erkki Tuomioja on Monday, Lavrov said, “I commented several times on what happened in Syria. Any unilateral ideas towards Syria will not work.”
In his words, “experience will prove an approach towards any conflict.”
The minister said the authors of any other ideas were likely ready to pay for their initiative with human lives. He recalled that in Geneva the parties agreed they would demand all Syrian participants in the conflict take the Geneva communique as a basis of the settlement. “We reached the Syrian government’s accord on the Geneva agreements,” Lavrov said, adding that Western partners had done nothing in this aspect.
“Moscow is concerned about the fact that several external players said the Geneva agreement were outdated. It is necessary for everyone to realise the need to agree with a consensus reached in Geneva,” the Russian minister added.
Moscow urges all Syrian parties and external players to stop sabotaging the Geneva communique put forth by the Action Group and U.N. Security Council Resolutions NN 2042 and 2043, Lavrov said.
