Racing car driver dies in RRC after colliding with railings

SMOLENSK, August 20 (Itar-Tass) — During the sixth stage of the Russian Racing Championship (RRC) automobile ring racing here, Yuri Semenchev, 49, a racing car driver of the Khimki Motorsport team, died after his car swerved off the course and collided with the railings.

An announcement posted at the official website of the RRC organizers said Semenchev was given the necessary first-aid. Medical personnel promptly organized his evacuation to a Smolensk hospital. However, physicians' efforts were to no avail. The injuries sustained by the racing car driver turned out to be incompatible with living.

Semenchev led an active lifestyle. Hunting was his hobby. In 2010, he made a debut in automobile ring racing. In the 2011 season, he ranked fifth in individual classification in the Super-Production class and third in team classification.

RRC organizers presented deepfelt condolences to the next-of-kin and relatives of Yuri Semenchev.
