There may be several candidates for Moscow chief architect, a source in the Russian Architects Union told Itar-Tass

MOSCOW, August 19 (Itar-Tass) —— There may be several candidates for Moscow chief architect, a source in the Russian Architects Union told Itar-Tass.

She said the architect community made the proposal at a Thursday meeting with Moscow Vice-Mayor for city development and construction projects Marat Khusnullin, who introduced a candidate to the position, Speech Choban & Kuznetsov architectural bureau head Sergei Kuznetsov. “The architects proposed to have two or three more candidates,” the source said.

Powers of the Moscow chief architect and the Moscow City Architectural Committee will be amended, she said. “The Moscow City Architectural Committee will handle technical issues, while the chief architect will focus on creative issues,” she added. “The chief architect will control city development and regulate architectural solutions in Moscow. A public council will be set up at the city administration. There will be also an architectural council made up of professionals. The chief architect will be in charge of both.”

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin accepted the resignation of Alexander Kuzmin, Moscow Chief Architect and head of the Moscow City Architectural Committee, on August 15. Kuzmin had held the position since 1996.

It is unknown so far when the city may have a new chief architect.
