MOSCOW, August 19 (Itar-Tass) — About 3,000 policemen will guard law and order during the Uraza-Bairam celebrations in Moscow on August 19, a Moscow police source told Itar-Tass.
Prayers will be held at all Moscow mosques as well as at a pavilion in Sokolniki Park, the Izumrudny sport complex in Southern Butovo and the golf field at the Luzhniki stadium for the first time.
Ambassadors of Muslim countries and other foreign guests are expected to attend the celebrations.
“The main celebrations will take place at the Moscow cathedral mosque. Thirty-three arch metal detectors will be installed at the adjacent Gilyarovsky, Shchepkin, Durov Streets and at the Vypolzov side street,” the police source went on to say.
“About 3,000 policemen and servicemen of the internal troops will provide security and guard public order during the celebrations,” the source said.
He added that experts with sniffer dogs had inspected all areas designated for prayers in advance.
In the meantime, the State Road Safety Inspectorate warns drivers that traffic will be restricted in Moscow during the Uraza-Bairam celebrations and asks them to take alternative routes in advance.
Uraza-Bairam (Eid al-Fitr) is one of the main Islamic holidays celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
