Attackers wound eight people in a mosque in Dagestan

Two unidentified persons burst into a mosque and fired several pistol shots

MAKHACHKALA, August 19 (Itar-Tass) — Unknown gunmen on Saturday opened fire in a mosque in the town of Khasavyurt, the Republic of Dagestan, and wounded eight Muslim parishioners. Two of them are in serious condition, a spokesperson for the investigative department of the Russian Investigative Committee for Dagestan told Itar-Tass.

“Two unidentified persons burst into a mosque at Gamidov Street at 20:55 Moscow time and fired several pistol shots at the parishioners who were still inside,” the spokesperson clarified.

There were about sixty people in the mosque during the attack. The assaulters managed to escape.

Investigators are working at the scene. Efforts are being made to establish the identity of the criminals. A search operation is under way.
