Court appoints new inquiry into criminal case against Rasul Mirzayev

Rasul Mirzayev's lawyer said that appointing a new forensic examination aimed to procrastinate the process

MOSCOW, August 16 (Itar-Tass) — Judge of the Moskvoretsky District court Andrei Fedin has appointed a fifth forensic examination into a criminal case opened into the death of Russian student Ivan Agafonov, who died after being knocked out by professional martial arts fighter Rasul Mirzayev.

The resolution passed by the judge satisfied the interests of the plaintiff - the family of the student, but the defendant and his lawyer have protested against the new forensic examination ordered once again. Rasul Mirzayev's lawyer said that appointing a new forensic examination aimed to procrastinate the process. "There are no grounds to call into question the results of the four previous forensic tests," the lawyer said.

Earlier, Andrei Leonov - a forensic expert of the Head Center for forensic and criminal investigations of the Defense Ministry, testified that the victim, Ivan Agafonov, fell onto a hard asphalt surface and received a brain injury after he was struck in the face with inconsiderable force. Consequently, Mirzayev's blow in the face of the victim could not have been a direct cause of the victim's death, the court was told.
