ST. PETERSBURG, August 16 (Itar-Tass) — Observers from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will monitor elections to the House of the Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus scheduled for September 23, 2012.
A source at the press service of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly told Itar-Tass on Thursday that the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus for elections and republican referendums on Thursday had accredited seven observers from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Employees of the Secretariat of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Council and the International Institute for monitoring the development of democracy, parliamentarism and observation of citizens’ electoral rights will assess the election campaign.
The first group of monitors from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will go on a three-day trip to Belarus on August 22. The monitors will meet members of electoral commissions, representatives of state government bodies, deputy candidates, public and mass media representatives in Minsk as well as in the Minsk, Brest, Vitebsk and Mogilev regions. They will attend meetings of district election commissions for registration of candidates to deputies of the House of Representatives.
Delegates of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will pay several more trips to Belarus in September.
