SOCHI, southern Russia, August 16 (Itar-Tass) — The directors of the Kuban Cossack Choir have suggested staging concerts in the capitals of the former winter Olympic Games in 2013 and promote the culture of the Krasnodar territory which will host the Winter Olympic Games in 2014.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, the president of the Sochi 2014 organizing committee, has welcomed and approved of the idea, the choir’s director Anatoly Arefyev said.
“We’ve decided to organize a guest tour for the Kuban Cossack Choir with an aim to promote the brands of the Sochi games and the Sochi-2014 cultural Olympiad. We hope that this proposal will be heard and implemented by the Olympic Committees of countries that have already hosted Winter Olympics,” the director of the Kuban Cossack Choir said.
At present, the choir is showing its new program titled “The Big Cossack Story” to the Sochi public. The repertoire includes songs which the choir has sung over the past 200 years since it was founded. The Kuban Cossack Choir has already represented the country in Guatemala where Russia won the bidding to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Over the past thirty years “the singing Cossacks” from the Kuban region have made 130 foreign trips and have visited almost all Russian regions.
