President Putin awards Olympic champions and their coaches

The Russian National Olympic team is in fourth place in the number of medals won at the London Olympics

MOSCOW, August 15 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the Russian champions of the London Olympic Games on Wednesday. Putin handed in high state awards to 48 Olympic champions and their coaches.

Putin handed in the Order of Merit of the Fourth degree to five winners of the gold Olympic medalsin synchronous swimming - Maria Gromova, Anastasia Davydova, Natalia Ishchenko, Svetlana Romashina and Elvira Khasyanova, and Olympic champion in gymnastics Yevgenia Kanayeva.

The Order of Honor was given to one of the best men in the volleyball team Sergei Tetyukhin and the Olympic prize winner in track-and-field athletics Natalia Antyukh. A big group of Russian athletes were awarded the Order of Friendship. The laureates of this Order are gymnasts Anastasia Bliznyuk and Aliya Mustafina, prize winner in track and field athletics Sergei Kirdyapkin, a canoe racer Yuri Postrigai.

The Russian National Olympic team is in fourth place in the number of medals won at the London Olympics - 24 gold medals, 26 silver medals and 32 bronze medals.

The results of the London Olympics proved better for the Russian Olympic team than at the previous Olympics held in Beijing when Russia won 72 medals all in all, including 23 gold medals.
